february 24, 2010. grey days..
this post has been drafted for more than 4 days. haven’t had the chance to truly fix the content, and my mood has significantly lifted since i last wrote. at the time.. the rain was bringing me down, but also forcing me to be more focused. i decided to use the quiet time to reflect and evaluate. i am not the only one who is introspective and uses past experiences to create new futures. sammy baloji’s work does just this. his photomontages illustrate history, the black and white images giving reference to the colonial past. as, not too long ago, men were forced to work under inhumane conditions, their skeletal frames stark reminders. his use of the panoramic frame to display the vast emptiness of the democratic republic of congo.
